A Little About Us
We all have a story. We’re grateful to have found one another.
Dexter and Dr. Tonya Joyner-Scott met in 1997, when he became her loan officer at a local bank. At the time, they were married to their college sweethearts, unaware of the losses they were about to experience. Dexter’s marriage ended within the year it started (a broken heart indeed), and Tonya lost her husband to brain cancer. A friend of Dexter’s saw Tonya drive by while he was on the phone with him, and that triggered him to call and check on her, and from that conversation he’s still checking on her today. They have been married for 23 years and are not only partners in life but also in business.

I’ve had the honor and privilege to work with these two lovely people, Dexter and Dr. Tonya Joyner-Scott, in the Upgraders Academy. I’ve always been more of an introvert, afraid to really speak out, especially in public. I often felt misunderstood, no matter what or how I said things, so I just shut down. However, with the Upgraders’ coaching, I was encouraged to be my authentic self and tap into my God-given abilities to fulfill what He is calling me to do. I realized that I needed to confront my insecurities to find closure and grow.
